from Brandon, MS, found on the side of the road. you may have noticed, but here again there is a discrepancy in species name. the USDA database does not list macrostachya as a species. i am beginning to suspect that Dukes operates according to an older set of taxonomic names. there is an inherent problem in naming species, namely, science does not have a total knowledge of all aspects of every plant. as we expand our knowledge, we have found that previous taxonomic structures are inadequate (and this will continue to occur until we completely revamp the classification system) .
