japanese mazus

an example of mazus pumilus of the family scrophulariaceae.

Many thanks to anonymous, both for the identification and the new reference source.

Dukes speaks of the species monticola here in Mississippi, though i am not whole convienced this an example of such. furthermore the usda plants database does not indicate monticola here in Mississippi. what i do know is this is an example of the family scrophulariaceae (figwort).

this little flower, 7 mm or so wide and about 9 mm long, while the overall height of the plant is usually between 4 and 6 cm. i have observed most specimens in well shaded areas, never in bright or partial sun. as to the identification, this may well be of a different species than the one indicated, however, it is most difficult to identify plants when all one has is an image to go on. this plant was observed outside the Jackson State University stadium.

Discovering and photographing plants is a fun hobby.

Try Mazus pumilus. Prior to M. pumilus, it was named M. japonicus. In same family as Lindernia sp. but different genus.
