henbit deadnettle

here is lamium amplexicaule of the family lamiaceae:

this is a very common plant. it is every where, along road sides and in yards, but is important in erosion prevention here in the south. of interest, the upper leaves of this little plant are sessile, meaning they lack stems, and are intimately associated with the flowers l. amplexicaule produces. however, the lower leaves are petioles, meaning a small stalk attaches them to the plant, while bearing no relation to the flowers.
