here is viola floridana of the family violaceae:
it seemed time for a normal flower and this seems to be about as normal a flower as you can get. this is the common violet, though it is very beautiful. this particular specimen was captured at Mule Jail cabin. however, i have seen this flower just about every where i have looked. v. floridana is native to North America and flowers between february and november. this year's spring round of flowering seems to have petered out already.
