windowbox woodsorrel

here is oxalis rubra of the family oxalidaceae:

this is a relative of the both the yellow and the violet woodsorrels. this particular plant, however, was introduced. it is an early spring bloom here in Jackson, Mississippi. this photo was taken on West Street in downtown in march. these flowers are especially beautiful as the cluster and can blanket entire yards.
