strawberry bush

here is euonymus americanus of the family celastraceae:

this is a native of North America. it is somewhat difficult to spot, its flowers do not stand out nor are its leaves of any significant shape or size. the flower itself is about the size of a quarter, just a bit smaller. a wonderful flower to find, as it is unusual. i have seen one example, this one, and it was found during late spring/early summer at Mule Jail. it held its bloom for a number of weeks, at least three that i observed. i have not seem its fruit, however i have not had the time i would like to indulge in flower hunting.
