broadleaf wild leek

this is allium ampeloprasum of the family liliaceae:

whose flower is arranged as a simple umbel. this particular example was captured at Chapel Hill in south Hinds county on May 20th 2007. there was a faint smell of garlic/onion in the air, as i moved about the smell intensified and was most pleasing. the plant is suffuse with the aroma and the slightest bruise will bring the luscious odor forth.
