windowbox woodsorrel
here is oxalis rubra of the family oxalidaceae:
this is a relative of the both the yellow and the violet woodsorrels. this particular plant, however, was introduced. it is an early spring bloom here in Jackson, Mississippi. this photo was taken on West Street in downtown in march. these flowers are especially beautiful as the cluster and can blanket entire yards.

here is oxalis stricta of the family oxalidaceae:
this plant is native to the North America. here in Mississippi, o. stricta can be found throughout the year. however blooms tend to occur more frequently during spring. this picture was taken in early march outside of JSU stadium.

violet wood sorrel
here is oxalis violacea of the family oxalidaceae:

this was taken january 13, 2007. unusual in that oxalis violacea normally does not bloom until april. this was found behind Sterling Towers apartments in Jackson, Mississippi
