This is Rosa palustris in the family Rosaceae:

As with the last flower posted, this was taken in May of 2009, at the Brandon property.  This plant is native to the United States and Canada and can be found throughout the eastern half of the two countries.  I have seen this plant often around Mississippi and the blooms vary from the pink seen above to an almost pure white.  The blooms have a very subdued sent that must be purposefully sampled.

here is rosa laevigata in the family of roscaceae:

a beautiful rose, if you chance upon one in the wild i'd expect you to agree with me that it is breath-taking. when i found this plant, i spent a good ten minutes just staring at it, though the delicate scent played no small part in my lingering. this flower is slightly larger than the palm of my hand and a very pure white. it is perched gracefully upon a thorny vine that can climb quite high. the blooms are numerous. r. laevigata was introduced to the United States, but for my part, i welcome this plant.

R. argutus is native to North America. this picture was taken in early spring of 2007 at Mule Jail. blackberry flowering time is short and occurs largely in earl spring, though i occasionally see blooms until late May here in Jackson.
