helenium amarum, of the family
asteraceae.

this flower is all along the road side and medians along the highways here in Jackson in the last few weeks of September. they make something like a carpet of yellow that is very pretty.
this flower displays the ray flowers (the 'petals') and disk flowers (the tubular bunch on the face [disk] of the flower) mentioned in the
ironweed post.
