bigleaf periwinkle

here is vinca major of the family apocynaceae:

this plant was introduced and is considered a pest/invasive species here in North America. this picture was taken in january of this year in Belhaven neighborhood. dispite its lovely flower the bigleaf periwinkle is capable of spreading rapidly. it is a creeper where most speciemens i've observed around town do not seem to be intentionally placed.

vinca major usually flowers from march until may.

you need to go to the usda site you link to and report that you've seen this flower in hinds county. go to the statewide distribution list.
