it seems that there are significant variations in the phenotypes among the species of trillium, and it seems unclear to which this particular plant belongs. however, the closest seems to be t. cuneatum. according to Timme t. cuneatum is indeed the dominate species in this area of Mississippi.
this particular specimen was found at Mule Jail. i have observed very similar plants at Chapel Hill, a parcel of land about 30 minutes south west of Jackson at the bottom of Hinds County, here in Mississippi.

Once in a while DN feel like I am looking at more then a picture of a flower. This is one of those pics.
