swamp leather flower

this is clematis crispa of the family ranunculaceae:

this example of c. crispa was discovered at Mule Jail, specifically at the first fork just past Crystal Lake. c. crispa is a perennial vine native to North America. according to Timme, this flower can be found throughout Mississippi. the stem of the flower was very long and lacked leaves, while the flower itself was prominent, about one and a half feet from the ground and easily spotted.

That's an amazing flower, and the photographer frames it most excellently (adverbs are NOT bad, JSAN).

You're cool.
