spiderwort

here is tradescantia ohiensis of the family commelinaceae:

t. ohiensis is a native of north america, a perennial, and of the same family as c. virginica and c. communis. t. ohiensis is a spring bloom. this picture was taken in march of 2007 near the pearl river. this is a common plant, usually found growing in clusters near rivers and swampland. i have seen it by road sides. t. ohiensis comes in several different colors, from blue to purple to white. the bloom averages a little more than an inch or so in diameter, though its size is some what variable.

I finally found a group of spiderworts growing close to the creek where I walk in the mornings. I've been looking for some since your first picture of one was posted.
