this is in the Mississippi Delta just outside of Grenada, in March of '08. phlox is fairly common in the spring around here, it's one of the road side flowers and can be white, pink, purple or blue. very pretty. it has a tendency to grow at the borders of fields just at the tree line.

this is phlox pilosa of the family polemoniaceae:
