corn gromwell

Buglossoides arvensis, bellow, of the family boraginaceae is an invasive species to the US and Canada:


This particular invader was found by the interstate 55 north on-ramp at High St. in Jackson MS.  The above photograph was taken March 4, 2007 on a blustery day.  Close inspection of the photograph leads one to believe the focus is off or the subject's motion was too grate, but no, the flower is simply bland where usually the stamen and pistil are found.  This flower arrangement is an example of cyme.
